Let's dive into a little caffeine chemistry … Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant of the methylxanthine class. It is used as a cognitive enhancer, increasing alertness and attentional performance, but not everyone reacts the same way with caffeine, it's rare but some people actually experience the opposite effect and feel sleepy.
Since caffeine (no matter what the source, coffee, green tea, black tea, chocolate etc) has a stimulating effect on the nervous system, its effects can last up to 10 hours in some people.
If you are one of those people who is affected by caffeine and are sensitive to its effects then we suggest that you lighten up, or remove caffeine intake on day one of your microdosing schedule. Consider a caffeine replacement on that day, like a Cacao drink which has very little caffeine and tastes amazing and has many other health related benefits, see below.
Or, switch to Decafe tea or coffee, a misnomer since "decafe" still contains some residual caffeine, most people can't detect it, however if you are super sensitive then you might be able to.
Raw Cacao contains a natural chemical called Theobromine which is in the same class of stimulants as caffeine, but theobromine is quite different from caffeine because it offers a longer lasting, more relaxed energy without the spike and crash.
Unlike caffeine, theobromine is not a central nervous system stimulant and therefore doesn’t typically make you feel as on edge or jittery and bonus… theobromine is non-addictive. The energy from theobromie feels more akin to a good night’s sleep and also gives you a “holistic high” by making you feel more focused.
Theobromine and caffeine are similarly constructed pharmacologically active chemicals but with noticeably different effects. Theobromine is gentle, has a slow onset, is long lasting and non-addictive whereas caffeine is intense, strong, fast acting, short to long lived and can be addictive.
Aside from the longer-lasting, milder, and more pleasant energy source, theobromine also helps improve circulation. It acts to dilate and widens your blood vessels which improves blood flow, this alone results in a whole host of additional benefits; better sleep, improved brain chemistry, helps to relax your lungs so you can breathe deeper, especially helpful if you have asthma. Theobromine helps to lower blood pressure due to increased blood flow, diuretic and smooth muscle relaxer.
